The Filmmakers

“Seed Money” is the first film from writing/directing duo Dan Schubert and Colin Steele. The film was inspired by Saul Schubert, (Dan’s father) who imagined the idea of a wannabe grandmother so single-minded that she attempts to pay her son in law to give her a grandchild.  Dan and Colin have been long time creative partners and former classmates at Vancouver’s Capilano University.  Inspired by classic films like “The Heartbreak Kid"(1972) and any film of the Coen Brothers, “Seed Money” sets forth to explore dark themes in a comedic way. Colin Steele is quoted as saying “The film can be interpreted widely, but for me it’s about a man pushing himself down so low that he suddenly finds freedom in the deepest depths.” The film deals with themes of compulsion, religion, and homosexuality; packing a lot into this twenty-five minute film.  After five months of production work, from soup to nuts, these two newcomers have high aspirations, submitting the film to some of the world’s top festivals. As Dan Schubert puts it, “We feel that ‘Seed Money’ is our first great step toward a fruitful future in filmmaking”.
